Brisbane's late-night district: clubs on Brunswick Street, smarter bars on James Street, and a crowd that stays out late.
Across the river and more relaxed. Pubs, live music and a friendly, slightly alternative crowd on Boundary Street.
Riverside drinks with a view of the Story Bridge or the city. Best for an early evening first meet.
Brisbane has shaken off the big country town label, but it has kept the easygoing manners. People are friendly, plans are flexible, and nobody minds if a quick drink turns into a long evening. It is a good city for honest, low-drama casual dating.
The weather does a lot of the work. Most of the year it is warm enough for a riverside drink after work, and a Friday in Brisbane often starts at 5pm and keeps going. Switch on Free tonight early, and you will see who else has the same idea.
Fortitude Valley is the city's late-night district, busy, loud and at its peak after 10pm. For a first meet, the quieter bars on James Street or the edge of the Valley are better for talking than the clubs on Brunswick Street.
West End, across the river, has a more relaxed, local feel, with pubs and bars along Boundary Street. Howard Smith Wharves under the Story Bridge and South Bank are good for an early evening drink with a view. Meet somewhere public first, keep the first round short if you are not sure, and let the night decide the rest.
On Friday and Saturday nights, NightLink buses run from midnight to 5am from Fortitude Valley and the city, with security on board, and NightLink trains leave the Valley in the early hours on some lines. There are staffed, secure taxi ranks in the Valley and the city on weekend nights too, including flat-fare ranks that are cheaper than a regular taxi if you share.
Brisbane spreads out a long way, and people from the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan and the Sunshine Coast all come into the city at the weekend. If you live outside the inner suburbs, widen your distance a little and suggest meeting somewhere in the middle. Plan your own way home before you go out, especially if you are heading back up or down the coast.
Joining, browsing and setting up your profile are free. Messaging unlocks with a 24-hour pass or a monthly plan, priced in Australian dollars. Passes never renew, and the monthly plan reminds you before it renews.
Every member passes an age check before anyone can see them, every photo is checked by a moderator, and verified members carry a red tick.
Meet somewhere public first, tell a friend with Safety check-in, and close any chat that does not feel right. No explanations needed.
On Friday and Saturday nights, NightLink buses leave the Valley and the city from midnight to 5am, and there are secure taxi ranks with marshals. Other nights, check the last bus or train first.
A quieter bar on James Street, somewhere along Boundary Street in West End, or a riverside drink at Howard Smith Wharves. Save the Valley clubs for later.
Yes. Widen your distance and they will appear. Many people meet in Brisbane at the weekend, so agree on the place and your own way home first.
